Model Flying Club
Swansea
MFC caters for model aircraft flyers mainly in the Swansea, Neath
and Port
Talbot
areas. The Club currently has approximately 40 members who fly IC,
electric
and
gas turbine models and to a lesser extent helicopters and gliders.
The club is
affiliated
to the British Model Flying Association (BMFA) and all members must
be a
member
of the BMFA to be covered by insurance.
The
club flying site is situated on Garn Goch Common, Penllergaer,
Swansea. (See
How
To Find Us) It is a flat field site, unfortunately without storage
or recreational
facilities.
Members normally meet to fly, weather permitting, on a
Wednesday,
Thursday,
Saturday and Sunday from about 11am. The only scheduled meeting
held
by
the Club is the AGM normally held in November of each
year.
New
competent members are welcome but any novice requiring training
should
contact the secretary
or attend at the site to ensure instructors are available.
Members
are encouraged to work
towards obtaining the BMFA ‘A’ certification of
competence.
Instruction
is not given for helicopter flying. The majority of club members
and
instructors
fly Mode 4 so it is important that you seek advice from us before
you
purchase
a transmitter or a model to ensure you obtain suitable equipment.
The club
does
not have models or equipment to lend new members.
From
April to September competent pilots of the Club can use the runway
facilities at
Swansea
Airport on Fairwood Common for flying on a Tuesday evening (See
Photo
Gallery).
